Emotions are an essential to our daily lives, that shapes our thoughts, actions, and relationships. This project explores different complex emotions and offers advice on self-regulation, using jigsaw puzzles as a comparison to show that managing emotions is similar to solving puzzles, which requires problem-solving skills.

Puzzled Emotions is a short guidebook that illustrates and explores difficult emotions, targeted at young adolescents who may be more emotionally sensitive due to various factors, while reminding them that these are natural emotions everyone experiences. The book is designed around the concept that managing emotions is similar to solving puzzles, requiring both the ability to see the bigger picture and problem-solving skills.

Stickers

Throughout the book, there are some absent puzzle pieces which are aimed to invite readers to engage with the material. The stickers serve to complete the missing pieces while reflecting the shifts in mood or illustrate some approaches for self-regulation. This little interactive element reinforces the concept of actively working through emotions and finding solutions, much like completing a puzzle.

Jigsaw Puzzle

The jigsaw puzzle serves as an analogy for problem-solving; just as we analyse shapes and the overall image to complete the puzzle, we similarly assess our emotions by carefully observing situations and determining the best approach. Upon completing the puzzle, the final image reflects our ability to control emotions and choose which ones to express in specific situations.
